The iCollege Pumas scored 13 tries on their way to a massive 94-3 (halftime 54-0) mauling of the Windhoek Draught Welwitschias in a Supersport Rugby Challenge massacre at the Sasol Secunda Rugby Club in Secunda on Saturday.
Right wing Morne Joubert helped himself to a hattrick of tries along with braces from scrumhalf Reynier van Rooyen, fullback Devon Williams and hooker Simon Westraadt while centre Alwayno Visagie, lock Le Roux Roets and replacements Stefan Ungerer and Hennie Sorbinski added their names to the scoresheet.
Flyhalf Christopher Smith landed nine conversions while replacement centre Barend Smit landed three conversions himself late in the game. The only trouble to the scorers for the away side was from replacement winger, Tuna Amutenya, who landed a solitary penalty for the visitors 10 minutes from fulltime.
The home wide were dominant in the opening 40 minutes, running in eight tries without answer, securing their bonus-point as early as the 12th minute of the game. The hosts raced into a 14-0 lead after just five minutes with Van Rooyen sniping in for his two tries of the afternoon.
Centre Visagie cruised through for the third try in the 8th minute before Joubert rounded off the bonus-point with the first of his four tries. The Pumas took a bit of a breather before crossing the whitewash again as lock Roets burst through to score after 25 minutes and with Smith converting, the home side held a healthy 35-point advantage. But Fullback Williams rounded off an excellent move straight from the kickoff, scoring in the corner which Smith was unable to convert.
The Pumas rounded of the first half in impressive style, scoring two more tries through Joubert and then hooker Westraadt, both converted by Smith which gave the home side an unbelievable 54-0 lead as the teams headed into the changerooms to eat some oranges.
The second stanza was not as frenetic as the first half with the Pumas scoring only five tries but the result was already beyond the men from the Namibian capital. The Pumas started the second half as they ended it with hooker Westraadt forcing his way over the line five minutes after the restart.
The hosts reached the 80-point mark midway through the second period when Williams raced through to score his two tries and Joubert rounding off his hattrick. The visitors, out of sight and mind, finally opened their account when Amutenya slotted a three-pointer but the hosts finished strongly, scoring two converted tries through Ungerer and Skorbinski within the final four minutes of the match.
